The mutilated body of Elizabeth Short, an aspiring actress dubbed the “Black Dahlia” for her dark hair and clothing, was discovered in a vacant lot in Los Angeles in 1947. Though her body was sliced in half at the waist, no blood was found at the scene. The murder, which remains unsolved after 80 years, captivated the media and inspired multiple books, films and TV shows.
