While foraging for mushrooms near an abandoned Indiana farm, a couple discovered two partially buried human skulls. Authorities soon found the decomposing bodies of four men dubbed the Newton County John Does; two were later identified via dental records and one via genetic genealogy. Larry Eyler—a serial killer linked to the murder of at least 20 teenage boys and young men in the Midwest between 1982 and 1984—confessed to the crimes in a statement released after his 1994 death in prison.
