Black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey enters prison after mail fraud conviction

Marcus Garvey, the Black nationalist who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association, was convicted of mail fraud in 1923 over a deal involving his Black Star Line shipping company. After serving nearly three years in an Atlanta prison, President Calvin Coolidge commuted his sentence in 1927.
