Drug lord El Chapo is recaptured by Mexican authorities

Nearly six months after escaping from a Mexican prison, notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán was recaptured. Military units of Mexico and the U.S. seized Guzmán after a deadly firefight that killed five cartel members. After being extradited to the U.S., he was convicted in 2019 on multiple charges, including drug trafficking and murder. He’s serving a life sentence plus 30 years in a super-max facility in Colorado.
