The 1932 abduction and murder of pioneering aviator Charles Lindbergh’s 20-month-old son, Charles Lindbergh Jr., was dubbed the “Crime of the Century.” Much of the search for the culprit focused on the bills used to pay the $50,000 ransom--which led to the arrest of carpenter Bruno Richard Hauptmann. Despite mostly circumstantial evidence, Hauptmann was convicted and executed in the electric chair in 1936.
