Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was abducted by Islamic militants in Karachi, Pakistan, while reporting links between Al-Qaeda and “shoe bomber” Richard Reid. A week later, his captors released video of Pearl as his throat was slit and his head severed from his body. British Pakistani terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh was sentenced to death for the crime, but his conviction was overturned by a Pakistani court in 2020.
