Elizabeth Smart,14, was abducted at knifepoint from the bedroom of her Salt Lake City home. For nine months, former handyman Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, subjected Elizabeth to daily rapes and constant threats in their home just miles away. Police rescued her after witnesses recognized her captors from an “America’s Most Wanted” report. Mitchell was sentenced to two life terms; Barzee was sentenced to 15 years and released in 2018.
