HAITI RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT
On January 12, a series of earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the Haitian Red Cross, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster.

Your gift to the American Red Cross will support emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include deploying personnel, sending relief supplies, and providing financial resources.

MEETING PATIENT NEEDS IN HAITI
In the 8 days since the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have provided emergency medical care to more than 3,000 people and performed over 400 surgeries. Open fractures, head trauma and seriously infected wounds are the most common injuries. Our medical teams have limited resources so they are focusing on patients with the gravest injuries. MSF has also begun to build an inflatable hospital with two operating theaters and 100-bed capacity in an open field not far from the airport to accommodate the increasing need for hospital and surgical space. MSF is currently working in nearly 70 countries around the world. Donations made to our Emergency Relief Fund will ensure our medical teams can react to the needs in Haiti as they arise, and humanitarian crises all over the world, particularly neglected crises, that remain outside the media spotlight.
