White supremacist Brenton Tarrant attacked two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday prayers – and livestreamed the massacre that killed 51 people and injured scores more. After pleading guilty to multiple murder, attempted murder and terrorism charges, Tarrant was sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole – a first in New Zealand. The attack also led to a swift nationwide ban on most semiautomatic weapons.
