Following one of the nation’s first televised trials, New Hampshire high school worker Pamela Smart, 22, was convicted of conspiring to murder her husband, Gregg. Prosecutors accused Smart of manipulating her 15-year-old student lover, Billy Flynn, and his friends into killing Gregg Smart and staging the scene to look like a robbery. Smart, whose case inspired the Nicole Kidman movie “To Die For,” received a life sentence without parole; Flynn and his accomplices received lesser sentences.
