John DeLorean was an auto innovator best known for the gull-wing sports car that bore his name and was featured prominently in the Back to the Future movies. But the pricey cars were a bust with consumers and his company was declared insolvent in 1982 with $17 million in debt. That same year, undercover FBI agents busted him over a scheme to finance a cocaine import deal worth $24 million. He claimed police entrapment and was later acquitted.
