For years, David and Louise Turpin abused their 13 children and frequently deprived them of food, hygiene, education and health care – often chaining them to their beds in their home in Perris, California. After two years of planning, 17-year-old Jordan Turpin crawled out of a window and called 911 with an old cellphone she had found. The parents pleaded guilty to multiple charges of torture and false imprisonment and in 2019 were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
