In a fit of jealousy, four Indiana girls aged 15 to 17 targeted 12-year-old Shanda Sharer over her relationship with another girl they knew from school. After luring Shanda away from her father’s home, they tortured and stabbed her before burning her alive in a remote field off a gravel road. All four agreed to plea deals to avoid the death penalty, and have since been released from prison.
