A crime scene investigator documents the Bates' house.

The investigator finds Chick’s body in the basement.

Norman's lawyer Julia Ramos (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) visits to plan their courtroom strategy.

Norman (Freddie Highmore) appears to be present...

...but Julia is actually dealing with Mother (Vera Farmiga) who isn't happy to hear that she and Norman have been charged with a capital offense, and are now facing the death penalty.

Julia suggests that they pursue an insanity plea.

Dylan (Max Thieriot) makes the difficult decision to attend Norman's hearing.

Norman notices Dylan's arrival.

Torn between his love for his brother and his love for Emma and their child, Dylan awkwardly takes a seat in the back of the courtroom.

Norman faces the charges against him.

Sheriff Greene (Brooke Smith) takes the stand and presents the physical evidence against Norman.

Madeleine (Isabelle McNally) is in attendance. She weeps as Sheriff Greene describes Sam's murder.

Mother listens as the hearing proceeds.

Overwhelmed, Dylan leaves the courtroom, only to run into Madeleine.

"I'm so sorry," Dylan tells her. "Are you?" she asks? "Norman only tricked me for a couple weeks. How did he trick you for your whole life?"

"You knew," Madeleine states to Dylan. "You're his brother. You knew. How can you live with yourself?"

Emma (Olivia Cooke) waits as her mother's body is prepared for cremation.

Emma watches the cremation of the mother she barely knew.

Emma decides to visit Norman.

Emma is pensive as she is escorted to Norman's holding cell.

Emma and Norman are face-to-face for the first time in years.

"Hello, Emma," Norman says. "I guess I know why you're here."

"You do?" Emma replies. "Because I'm not sure I do."

Emma knows that something is off. "Where's Norman?" she asks. Mother tells her that Norman is asleep.

"Well can you tell him something for me?" Emma asks. Mother nods. "Can you tell him that I miss him?"

Romero (Nestor Carbonell) arrives at the station. He's come for Norman, and nothing is going to stand in his way.
