How Ken Urker Met Gypsy Rose
Urker first wrote to Blanchard in 2017 after seeing Mommy Dead and Dearest, the documentary that helped introduce her case to a national audience. Blanchard later said the letter began as a gesture of support, but the connection moved quickly beyond that. They started talking on the phone for hours at a time and built a relationship while she was still behind bars in Missouri.
The relationship soon turned serious. During a prison visit in 2018, Urker proposed, and Blanchard accepted. At the time, she described the relationship as stable and deeply emotional, a bond formed under highly unusual circumstances but one that seemed very real to both of them.
But the engagement did not last. Urker later said that the breakup was influenced in part by outside voices, including public scrutiny and comments made by a TV personality after Blanchard’’s case drew even more attention. By 2019, the relationship had broken down. Blanchard would later marry Ryan Anderson in 2022 while still incarcerated.
Even after the split, though, Urker did not disappear completely from Blanchard's life. Reports described the two as having maintained some form of contact through the years, even when they were no longer a couple. That lingering connection would come back into play when Blanchard’s life changed again after her release.
A Rekindled Relationship
In December 2023, Blanchard was released after serving seven years of her 10-year sentence. She moved in with Anderson, began giving interviews and quickly became the subject of a Lifetime docuseries. However, by late March 2024, Blanchard announced that she and Anderson had separated, and soon afterward she filed for divorce.
It was during that period that Urker came back into the picture. At first, reports described the relationship cautiously, saying the two were reconnecting as friends. But by late April 2024, Blanchard confirmed that they were back together, noting that the pair realized “our love for each other is simply undeniable.” It was reported that Blanchard’s stepmother, Kristy Blanchard, helped bring them back together.
Urker later said that he and Blanchard reconnected in April 2024, saw each other in person in May and then learned not long after that Blanchard was pregnant. He also said he moved to be closer to her as they tried to build a life together.
In July 2024, Blanchard announced that she was pregnant with Urker’s child and said she was 11 weeks along. She also tried to shut down questions about paternity, saying there was “never any question” that the baby belonged to Urker because she had left Anderson months earlier. Later that year, she publicly shared prenatal paternity test results confirming Urker as the father.
Where Are They Now?
On December 28, 2024—exactly one year after Blanchard’s release from prison—the couple welcomed a daughter, Aurora Raina Urker. Urker shared the news with an Instagram photo from the hospital, showing Blanchard holding the baby while he stood beside them.
In March 2025, it was reported that the pair had started couples therapy, saying they wanted to strengthen the relationship after the upheaval of the previous year. That summer, Blanchard said they were finally moving in together full time now that her parole restrictions had ended. Later that year, she said that if Urker proposed again, “The answer will of course be yes.”
In the years since her release, Urker has remained a steady presence in Blanchard’s life, despite the relationship’s on-and-off history. Now, with a daughter together and a shared home, Urker has moved from a long-distance figure in her past to a central part of her present life.
