Stephen Norman has worked as a private investigator since 1984. In 1994, he began working for the League for Animal Protection in New York's Nassau and Suffolk Counties. In 1998 he became a Peace Officer with the Nassau County SPCA and eventually became the Deputy Chief of the Law Enforcement Division. His division investigated dog fighting and other forms of animal abuse and this passion translated to his work with the Runaway Squad.

Since wrapping production on the series, Norman has left the squad to pursue other interests.
