A founding producer on Random 1®, Jim Lefter worked with on-air hosts John Chester and Andre Miller, to shape the show, moving their mission for grassroots giving from concept to original, real-life TV series.
An award-winning TV editor and producer, Lefter decided in college, at the University of Maryland, College Park, that he wanted more experience in TV production than the school offered. So he started a campus production company that created numerous TV programs. Over the next decade, Lefter worked for the Discovery Channel, TLC, Travel Channel, HGTV, and Home & Leisure. His credits include Mind Twisters, which earned the 1999 Telly and 20th Anniversary Telly Awards, Quantum: History's Turning Points, Baseball's Greatest Memories, A Bee's Life, The World: A Television History, and Shark Week. Lefter also worked with Chester, Capella Fahoome, and Molly Schrek on the independent film Euphoria. As lead producer on TLC Legends with Bryant Gumbel, Lefter created the virtual set, supervised production, and directed talent. His other programs include 48 Hours with Dan Rather, Next To Nothing with Cheryl Tiegs, and Forbidden Places with Mark Hamill.
On Random 1, Lefter is a key member of the production team, living and working in the show's traveling RV studio. Once contact is made, Lefter helps "surface opportunities" for participants and oversees filming.
