Oscar Pistorius, a South African whose legs were amputated below the knees in infancy, first gained fame as a world-class sprinter who competed in both the Paralympics and the 2012 Olympics with high-tech prostheses. But his career ended after he shot and killed his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, on February 14, 2013. Convicted in 2015 of culpable homicide, he served eight years in prison and was released on parole in 2024.
