Chai Soua Vang, a California National Guard veteran, got into a dispute with other hunters during deer season in rural Wisconsin over whether he was trespassing on private land. He shot eight people, killing six and wounding two others. Vang claimed he was fired on first and racially harassed over his Hmong heritage, but prosecutors successfully argued that he responded with excessive force. He was convicted on homicide charges.
