  • BG & Lee/Chris

    Saturday, February 09 2/1C

BG and Lee have filled their million-dollar Victorian home with hoards of stuff--and now are even competing to see who can bring in the most stuff. The two are locked in emotional combat--a real-life "War of the Roses." Chris has filled his house and eight storage units with worthless junk that he gets for free. His situation is so dire that he's gone without water and other basics just so he can continue to afford storage space for his garbage.

Why Not Get a Storage Area?

I've watched the show many times and like us all, have a bit of hoarding tendency in my blood. I am infuriated by these "therapists" who want to enter a home and demand that a hoarder give their cherished possessions away or throw them in a dumpster. It just seems so cruel. I am not speaking about accumulations of filth and trash, but for those who seem to be extreme collectors. I mean, isn't a library a hoard of books. What makes a "collector" any different than a hoarder? It seems a collector has the money to afford a space to keep their treasures. My question is: why not get these folks a storage area? Is it just the financial burden of a space to store their items?

ABOUT THE SHOW

HOARDERS™ not only captures the drama as experts work to put each hoarder on the road to recovery but also highlights the individual's inner challenges and triumphs. Although cleaning marks the first step of tackling this disorder, success is not definite. For some individuals, throwing away the tiniest object is so traumatizing that they will not be able to allow the cleaning process to go on, no matter how it may impact their future.
