Beryl A. New, Ed.D., has been the principal of Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas since July, 2010. She received a doctorate degree from the University of Kansas in 2007 and a master’s degree from Washburn University in 2002. Her bachelor’s degree was also earned at Washburn University in 1988, and she has been in the field of education for twenty-eight years. Before becoming a school administrator, a position she has held for the past 17 years, she taught English at Topeka High School for twelve years. In July of 2017, she will transition to a new role within Topeka Public Schools, working to attract and retain highly qualified staff to serve students in all of Topeka’s public schools.
Dr. New remains very active within the Topeka community, participating in a number of educational, social, informational, and religious organizations and events throughout the year. She is very proud to be a lifelong citizen of Topeka, and celebrates that connection whenever possible.
She is married to LaRon M. New, the mother of eight grown children (five girls and three boys) and the grandmother of twelve. Dr. New has a passion for education and enjoys working in the high school setting, preparing young people to become successful and productive adults. Dr. New is also very active in her church, where she teaches Sunday School, sings in the choir, and participates in many other facets of the ministry.
