Why I Decided to Become an EMS Worker
Being a first responder is in my blood: my uncle was a police officer/EMT. I admired the job he did helping people and I grew up knowing I wanted to do the same. I remember as a child watching the TV show Emergency and after seeing Johnny and Roy save peoples lives by shocking them using these paddle things they held in their hands, I was hooked. Plus they got to drive a cool vehicle with lights and sirens.
What I Love About My Job
The reason I do this job day in and day out is to make a difference in someone’s, life no matter how big or small that may be. Knowing I’ve made someone’s life better makes the long hours and stress worth it. I love learning, so EMS is perfect for me because medicine is always changing. I make a point of learning something new everyday. I love the adrenaline rush you get on a critical patient. I love that I can take a patient that is struggling to breathe one minute, use my knowledge, and the next minute they are breathing. I love delivering babies because there’s no greater joy then helping bring life into this world, especially in our line of work where you see death day in and day out. It’s one of the most amazing moments I have ever experienced…18 times!
I work hard and I play hard. When I’m not at work I enjoy a day on the beach or by the pool with friends. Being from NOLA , of course I love jazz/blues music, dancing and seafood. Give me a pot of boiled crawfish or some fried alligator with a few cold beers and I’m in heaven. I am a huge Saints fan and a proud member of Who Dat Nation!
