Mike is a lifelong native of Bledsoe (pronounced Bledsaw) County, in rural East Tennessee. It was there that he developed his pronounced southern drawl, as well as his slow, steady pace. Nicknamed "Turtle" by members of the unit, Mike's specialty is maintaining a steady, methodical pace during times when others would be reaching for nerve pills.

He is a stoic type who prefers to listen to others rather than the sound of his own voice. Mike is frequently partnered with Special Agent Richard Metcalfe.
