Glossary

Ice Pick:
A small prison-made knife that can be the most deadly of all shanks. Inflicts internal wounds that are not very visible at the skin level. Inmates stabbed with an ice pick may not seek medical attention until it’s already too late
In My Pocket:
A term used by inmates to indicate they have a staff member working for them.
Jacket:
An inmate's criminal file or reputation. Example: "His jacket's full of murders, armed robbery and rape."
Julep:
Prison-made wine made with the same ingredients as prison-made whiskey, but resulting in a lower alcohol content. Ingredients are sugar, fruit, yeast, water, and heat… all of which can be easily found within the prison
Keister:
A verb meaning to hide something in one's rectum. An inmate who is skilled at smuggling contraband in this manner is known as a “Keister Bunny”
Kite:
Clandestine written correspondence – often between gang members – that is passed through secret means in prison. Typically a tiny piece of paper with tiny, sometimes encoded text that can be hidden in common areas like drains or trash cans, inside of library books or magazines
Milkshake:
A concoction of urine, feces, toilet water or other disreputable ingredients used by an inmate to splash an unsuspecting passerby. Example: "Here comes the C.O.! Quick, get that milkshake ready for him."
Minister of Justice:
Gang member authorized by his gang to enforce discipline
Mule:
An inmate or visitor who smuggles drugs or other illegal items into the prison
