The opening scene where Detective Sam Harper walks up to the snow-laden home in Chicago was actually filmed entirely in Pompano Beach, Florida. All of the snow was placed on the ground around the home by the show's special effects department.
That same home is one of many cottages from old Pompano Beach that were relocated in the early 1970s from the beach to their current locations.
The repair shop where Carlos and Longworth search Ashley's car is eco-friendly.
The Wayside Inn, where Longworth and Sam chase Tommy Ray, is a real bar in Dania Beach, Florida (the oldest city incorporated in Broward County, dating back to the 1880s). The bar has been in the same neighborhood for over 40 years.
Ashley Whitfield's apartment was actually a single-family residence converted into an apartment by the set decorating department.
No animals were injured during the dog bite scenes. The animals used on the show are treated like actors. They have ultra heavy duty air conditioning units in the cars/cages, where they wait before they perform their stunts, to help keep them cool.
The blackout eyes for all the dead women were actually contact lenses custom fit to each actress.
