"Gibtown" was directed by Jeff Bleckner, a two time Emmy Award winner — one for Hill Street Blues and another for a PBS special, Concealed Enemies.
The entire Gibtown set was filmed in Fort Lauderdales' New River district.
Greta, the Mule-Faced Woman, was actually played by the actress Karla Dieseldorff. In real life, she looks nothing like her character.
Judy Gold, who played the giant woman Rebecca Thornquist (she's 6' 3"), started her career as a stand up comic in the early 90s and has had many comedic and serious roles in TV and film throughout her career.
The museum fire scene was filmed at a replica of an original school house in Fort Lauderdale. Our special effects department used fire sticks — long pipes on stands with holes drilled in them which burn on propane gas — for a controlled fire. The sticks were also placed by the windows to create the visual effect of burning from outside.
You may recognize Kevin Weisman, who played Ben Pershing, from his role as Agent Marshall Flinkman, on Alias.
Enid Granier's property was actually two separate properties filmed to look like one. Her home was in the town of Southwest Ranches on a two acre lot. Her backyard, the large lot where construction workers were breaking ground for the circus, was filmed in Tree Tops Park in Broward.
