Day three brought an emotionally charged scene for our guest cast. We’re incredibly blessed on The Cleaner to snag fantastic actors to come play with us each week. This episode was no exception. It was a special treat for me that we had Julia Campbell as Marcia. Julia’s married to the Dutchman, Jay Karnes with whom I worked on “The Shield.” I’m as big a fan of the Karnes-Cambell family as you’ll find. They’re fantastic actors and stellar human beings. Working with Jay was one of many delights on “The Shield” but I’d yet to be lucky enough to work with Julia. It took much self-control not to squeal when she walked in to audition. It was a beautiful thing to watch her bring a character to life who, on the page, had the potential to come off as totally irredeemable. Julia brought flashes of warmth and love while being brave enough to let this woman be unlikeable for most of the episode. That nuance and range allowed for what I think is a very powerful final moment to the story.
