Wardrobe Department: Joseph Porro
Entry #3
Friday
We start the day making phone calls to Shoe suppliers across the country looking for large size women's shoes in fashionable styles. I also check sites that specialize in clothing for Transvestites and Crossdressers. There are some interesting sites that specialize in undergarments to help feminize the male figure. Silicone bust pads and girdles with hip and buttock pads are ordered.
I send one of my shoppers out to a dance studio to buy thick spandex women's thongs. The actor has to hide his pride and joy. There is a whole process which I won't go into that helps create a feminine line in pants and skirts.
No cast yet. We are getting nervous because I know this character needs several hours to get everything right in a fitting. Claudia is hounding Casting to get actors sizes. This is to no avail.
I have one of my assistants do a pull over at Disney Wardrobe. He gets a rack of hooker gear in larger sizes. We put it on hold waiting for my male lead.
The rest of the day is spent organizing the stock and I work with my cutter-fitter in the alterations dept. on making some things for upcoming episodes.
The day slowly draws to an end. No cast! Claudia calls the Production Manager and gives him a heads up. I might be working this Memorial Day weekend. It's 7:00P.M. and everyone's getting ready to leave. The phone rings...it's casting with our first cast members. It's the young pre-op transsexual part. I hover over my Supervisor waiting to hear his sizes. Please don't be too big! It couldn't be worse. He comes in at 6 feet tall and a size eleven shoe! That's a women's size thirteen! I know this won't be pretty and yes, I have to work this weekend. I leave in a foul mood. I was hoping to get some time off since I worked both days last weekend. Dressing a big manly man as a woman and convincing the audience is no easy feat. I doubt I can pull this off. I'm Joseph Porro not Jesus H. Christ!
