A group of Cheyenne protesters surround a Newett Energy company truck after a cabin explodes, taking the life of Ethan Lone Elk, a local Cheyenne man. The protesters believe a methane build up in the water caused by Newett's fracking operation is to blame for his death.
Vic (Katee Sackhoff) and Walt (Robert Taylor) arrive to try and calm things down. Vic has a personal stake in keeping things from getting out of hand. Her husband, Sean, is trapped in the surrounded truck.
Waiting for Vic and Walt is Tribal Police Chief, Mathias (Zahn McClarnon), who has his own reasons for being at the protest.
Vic hops out of Walt's truck as Mathias approaches. She's not sure how they're going to get Sean out of this predicament.
Walt asks Mathias what he's doing at the protest. "Watching," he replies. Walt is surprised, until Mathias continues. "Not them," he clarifies, nodding to the protesters...
"...Them. The energy company security guards. They've already taken out one of us," Mathias growls. "I'm not letting them take out another." Walt warns him to keep his head, although he's surprised at the violent energy he's sensing from the usually peaceful protest group. Behind them, a familiar vehicle pulls up.
As Henry (Lou Diamond Phillips) approaches, Vic comments that maybe he can help talk some sense into the protesters.
"I was called," Henry says, as he walks past Walt and Vic and towards the protest. "By who?" Vic asks. Henry ignores her, but Walt knows the answer. "His people."
Vic and Walt make it through the protesters and up to Sean's truck. Now, they just need to get him safely through the outraged crowd.
Vic slaps a pair of cuffs on Sean (Michael Mosley) and loudly announces that he's under arrest for inciting a riot. The crowd cheers as they walk Sean to safety.
One protester shouts, "That's for Ethan!" as he makes the mistake of shoving Sean. Vic reacts immediately, shoving him back while yelling, "Don't make me come back for you!"
Walt turns and spots their victim's brother, Dolan Lone Elk (Eric Schweig), on top of the Newett Energy truck chanting with the protesters. Walt warns him to get off the truck, but Dolan is intent on making sure his voice is heard.
Dolan ignores Walt and continues his rant, accusing Newett Energy of poisoning their land and killing his brother. Henry looks on with concern. He know what's coming next.
Walt climbs up on the truck and quickly subdues Dolan, earning jeers and boos from the crowd.
Henry is torn as Walt turns to the angry mob and asks, "Who's next?"
Henry approaches Walt with his hands raised and ready to be cuffed. Walt deflates as he realizes he's going to have to arrest his oldest friend.
After running into a tipsy Cady (Cassidy Freeman) at the Red Pony, and downing several drinks of his own, Branch (Bailey Chase) works up the courage to start a conversation. Things go well, and the two end up back at Cady's where a garden hose fight leads to a reconciliation.
The next morning, Cady slips up and mentions her mother to Branch. Intrigued, he asks her what she's talking about.
Cady, tired of bearing the weight of so many secrets, decides to confide in Branch. She tells him the truth about her mother's death. Branch is stunned, and torn. Will he respect Cady's privacy? Or will he use this skeleton in the closet to make Walt look bad and finally get ahead in the polls?
