Hey, hey, it's the Monkees! Here's everything you ever wanted to know about the first of the manufactured bands that shocked the music industry in the 60s by generating a slew of hit records including "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer." Formed after two TV producers placed an ad for actors to star in a new TV show about a band clearly modeled on the Beatles, the four successful applicants became stars in their own right. The Monkees sang their own songs, but they didn't play their own instruments, even though that's the way it looked on their TV show.
