“This opportunity changed my life forever, I learned so much about food and exercise, I am back home changing my son’s life and I hope to inspire many more to change theirs as well.”

Sallie grew up in the South, where every event revolved around food, and she was taught to eat everything on her plate. Although she was always heavy, her weight spiraled out of control after her father committed suicide a few years ago. Her aunt had a stroke at age 32 and Sallie is terrified that she's headed down the same path. On top of worrying about her weight, she's got the hefty responsibility of being the sole breadwinner as the single mom to her 9-year-old son Sam. Precocious and articulate, Sam is also overweight and knows it. He gets upset when he talks about his mom because "he doesn't want her to die," and thinks he's "going to end up like her too." Sallie wants to get fit in order to hold down a job and pass along her healthier habits to her son.
