“It has been a difficult journey, but I have learned through therapy, knowledge and hard work that it was lies that enabled me and justified my addiction to food.”

Born in Mexico, Flor's parents divorced when she was young and she moved with her mother to Texas. The stress of the life change caused her mother to constantly curse at Flor and call her "the fat one." According to Flor, after hearing so many times that she was fat, "you just accept that you are and give into it." She decided the only way to get away from her family was to get married, which led to a stressful 13-year marriage that eventually failed. While married, Flor and her ex had three kids together and it was during those pregnancies that she put on most her weight. During the first pregnancy alone, she put on 100 pounds. Nothing she did could stop the weight gain; she found comfort in food. Now, Flor is remarried and has a new family. Her husband George is also obese and together, she fears their bad habits are spiraling out of control. Flor wants to be able to participate in family activities again and make a change take back her life.
