Chad from A&E's HEAVY

Height: 5'11"

Start Weight: 509.0 lbs

End Weight: 368.4 lbs

“This gave me the opportunity to take control of my health, and consequently my life, opening a new chapter – one that I have desired for longer than I can remember.”

Chad turned to food at an early age to cope with the verbal and physical abuse he and his mother were subject to by his alcohol and drug-addicted father. His weight affects every aspect of his life from the way his girlfriend looks at him, to how he's perceived by co-workers. Chad has broken the box spring under his mattress and chairs in public and at work. His clothes are torn or worn out. He has difficulty using restrooms and is self-conscious everywhere he goes. Last year, Chad met Leyna, the love of his life, who he wants to marry. He has a proposal - on a hot air balloon ride - all worked out, but he must first get his weight under control in order to execute it and live happily ever after.

Limitations:

  • -Can’t sit on a bed or chairs without breaking them or worrying that they will break
  • -Can’t do any of the physical activities that he dreams about
  • -Is exhausted and lethargic all the time

Health Problems:

  • -Severe sleep apnea
  • -Swelling of the ankles
  • -Multiple warnings from his doctor

Stakes:

  • -Wants more than anything to marry Laina
  • -Doesn’t want to die young, would like to cross items off his “bucket list”
  • -Wants to live to see grandkids
