Each year in the United States, more than 192,000 women and 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Each person’s experience is different and uniquely personal. It was important for me to share my experience with you so I could highlight the seriousness of early detection. There are currently more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, and together we can increase that number.

The Facts

• More than 40,000 deaths, including nearly 500 men are anticipated from breast cancer this year.
• Age plays a large part in development of breast cancer. Most new cases are in women over the age of 60.
• Women who are overweight and/or inactive after menopause are more likely to develop breast cancer.
• Excessive alcohol consumption over an extended period of time may increase breast cancer risk.
