Before becoming television's sharp and sexy medical examiner, Jill Hennessy was probably best known for her role as Claire Kincaid on the series Law & Order. With this impressive crime drama résumé, it may be surprising to some that Hennessy has strong comedic roots. She developed these talents early in her career, working with two improvisational comedy groups in Canada before taking a role in The Buddy Holly Story, which brought her to New York City.
Hennessy has appeared in numerous films, including a starring role in Ron Howard's The Paper. Other credits include Autumn in New York; Chutney Popcorn; Dead Ringers; Exit Wounds; I Shot Andy Warhol; Most Wanted; and A Smile Like Yours. She also had a role in Love in the Time of Money, a Robert Redford/Sundance Lab project. Besides acting, Hennessy has ventured behind the camera, writing and co-directing The Acting Class. She performed in the film, too.
Whether on television or in films, Hennessy has garnered much critical acclaim for her work and won over a lot of fans. She was nominated for a People's Choice Award for the first season of Crossing Jordan and received a Golden Satellite Award in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television category from the International Press Academy for her performance in the cable film Nuremberg.
With her husband, Paolo Mastropietro, and her son, Marco, Hennessy divides her time between Los Angeles and Manhattan. Her birthday is November 25.
