Criss Angel Mindfreak 6

Smash

SMASH

At the monumental Grand Canyon Sky Walk in front of hundreds of spectators, Criss will be shackled and locked inside a confining solid crate except for holes to view his face and hands at all times. The crate will then be hoisted over the edge of the canyon--over 4,000 feet above the Colorado River. If Criss does not escape in time, HE WILL DIE. Viewers get an uninterrupted view of Criss’ face, hands, and feet as he attempts to escape his bonds and the crate before it crashes to the cold rocky river below.

DEMONSTRATION FACTS

  • Criss returns to Grand Canyon West to perform Smash, this time to the famous Skywalk. He will be shackled and sealed in a 5 ft x 5 ft crate and hoisted 4,000 feet above the canyon floor. He must escape shackles, chains and the crate itself.
  • Claustrophobia is the fear of confined spaces, Acrophobia, the fear of heights. Taphophobia is fear of being prematurely buried. Criss is must contend with all three at once.
  • The Colorado River flows 4,000 feet below the Skywalk. The river and its tributaries began carving out the canyon about 17 million years ago.
  • The Skywalk looks out onto an area of the canyon called Eagle point because of the huge eagle-shaped rock formation clearly visible in the cliffs. In Hualapai legend, this eagle is responsible for carrying their prayers up to heaven.
  • Opened in 2007, The Skywalk is a glass-bottom walkway that juts out 70 feet over the canyon and is a popular tourist destination. The glass floor is 10 feet 2 inches wide. All visitors must cover their shoes with cloth booties before entering the Skywalk as not to scratch or chip the glass.
  • Grand Canyon west receives approximately 200,000 visitors a year and there are plans to expand the Skywalk complex to include a museum, restaurants and a resort hotel.
