DEATH FIELD

Death Field - Criss and his team head to Edwards Air Force Base in California where they take "Mindfreak" to an explosive new level. Criss first learns about the dangers of mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDS) and works with the K-9 bomb detection unit to learn about their remarkable abilities. Utilizing his own instincts, he finds a hidden canister of explosive material and prepares for his big challenge of the day: to safely traverse a field of live explosives, where the potential for serious injury, if not death, is extremely high.

Demonstration Facts

• Criss had a meet and greet at Edwards Air Force Base with soldiers and families of deployed military. It was hard to say who was more excited: the soldiers and families meeting Criss or Criss meeting them.
• K-9 bomb detection dogs are used on the front lines sniffing out IEDs and other explosives. A dog's sense of smell is 7,000 times more powerful than a human's. A human would smell a pizza, a dog would smell the cheese, the tomatoes, the salt, the oregano, the bread, etc...
• Criss's intention is to promote awareness of IEDs. Every year 6,000 people are killed or maimed by landmines and they are of particular concern for our troops overseas. 80% of American Casualties in Afghanistan are from IEDs.
• The "Death Field" is a field of 56 panels, under which are 28 IEDs. There is only one safe path through the field. The field is full of "Victim Triggered" IEDs; triggered by the victim who steps on them. Even wearing a bomb suit, should Criss step on an IED, he will be seriously maimed, mutilated or killed.
