"THE LOST WORLD" POSTER CONTEST
2002 OFFICIAL RULES
1. CONTEST DESCRIPTION: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. "THE LOST WORLD" POSTER CONTEST is a Skill Contest in which approximately 28,000 High Schools (Grades 9-12) in the 50 United States will receive a promotion kit consisting of a poster that includes the program description and contest rules. Participating High School ("School") students, supervised by any authorized school official, will be encouraged to design an original poster depicting their interpretation of "The Lost World". Entry submissions will be accepted beginning October 7, 2002. Contest ends November 8, 2002. All entries must be postmarked by November 8, 2002, and received by November 22, 2002. 2. ELIGIBILITY: This Contest is open to High School students in grades 9-12, who are legal residents of the 50 United States at the time of entry and whose schools are participating in "THE LOST WORLD" POSTER CONTEST. A&E Television Networks ("Sponsor"), The GEM Group, Inc. ("Administrator"), and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, vendors, advertising and promotional agencies ("Sponsor and its agents") and each of their respective officers, directors, employees and members of the immediate family and persons living in the same household of each are ineligible.
3. HOW TO ENTER: In each participating School, teachers may submit an original poster depicting "The Lost World", from individual students (grades 9-12). Students may not submit joint entries. Posters may only be made using materials such as markers, colored pencils, crayons, paints, or any other two-dimensional material (i.e., do not apply any materials such as glitter or stickers). Computer aided drawings will not be accepted. 3-Dimensional entries will not be accepted. Entries must be at least 8.5" X 11" in size and must not be larger than 20" X 30". Do not mount poster on backings that will cause them to be larger than 20" X 30". Limit one entry per student. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, illegible or misdirected entries, postage-due or entries not received by November 22, 2002. All entries must be submitted by an authorized school contact (i.e., School Principal/President, Vice Principal or a full time teacher/professor). Each entry must be clearly labeled on the reverse side and must include the following information: the student's name, student's parent name, student's home address, student's home telephone number, student's grade, school name, school contact, school address and school telephone number and be signed by the student and an authorized school contact. Teachers must also obtain written permission from the parent or legal guardian of those students, under the age of 18 (minors), who have submitted entries. Teachers must send entries to: "THE LOST WORLD" POSTER CONTEST P.O. Box 6628, Stacy, MN 55078-6628. Teachers may submit student individual entries in bulk. Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned, unless teachers specifically request in writing at time of entry and provide a self addressed, postage pre-paid package to return the entry. Entries that are submitted with a postage pre-paid return package will be returned 4-6 weeks after the final judging. Grand Prize and First Prize winning entries will not be returned.
4. WINNER SELECTION: Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Style (33.3%), Creativity (33.3%), and Originality (33.3%). Preliminary judging will be performed by The GEM Group, Inc., an independent judging organization. After the preliminary judging, winners will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by Sponsor from the Arts and Education fields, on or about December 13, 2002, whose decisions are final on all matters relating to this Contest. In the event of a tie, tied entries will be re-judged based solely on creativity. Winners will be notified by phone or express mail on or about December 20, 2002. Winners and the Parent/Legal Guardian of each winner will be required to sign and return, within 14 days of notification, an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release from Liability for Minor ("Release") and a statement affirming the minor's grant of all rights in the submission and the right to use winner's name and likenesses in all media for promotional purposes to Sponsor and certifying that the submission is the original submission of the entrant, the entrant has full rights to the submission, that it has not been previously published, released or distributed, does not infringe any third party rights and is suitable for publication. Failure to return any documents within the time specified or failure to respond to notification attempts or return of any prize notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. Prizes awarded to minors will be awarded in the name of parent or legal guardian, who must execute Eligibility documents on behalf of the winner.
5. PRIZES: Grand Prize (1): A 4-day/3-night trip for four to participate in a Dinosaur Dig in Montana, a $1,000 Scholarship, awarded to the winning student in the form of a check and a matching $1,000 grant awarded in the name of the school. Trip to Dinosaur Dig includes a 4-day/3-night trip for four to Montana, including a two day Dinosaur Dig Tour where a guide will take the group to a selected field site to search for different fossils, round-trip coach class air transportation from a major U.S. airport near winner's residence (Sponsor's choice), ground transfers to and from the Dinosaur Dig Site, Picnic lunches for the 2 days the group is at the Dinosaur Dig Tour, and 3-night hotel accommodations (double occupancy). (Approximate Retail Value: $5,500). First Prizes (2): An Adventure Gift Pack consisting of: a Sport Backpack, a Sport Watch, Binoculars, a Max Grip Lantern, a Water Bottle, a Nickel Plated Compass with Cover and a $500 Scholarship, awarded to the winning student in the form of a check and a matching $500 grant awarded in the name of the school (Approximate Retail Value: $1,100 each). Total Approximate Retail Value of all prizes $7,700. Grand Prize Winner's Travel dates to be determined by Sponsor. Grand Prize Winner and his/her parent/legal guardian and guests must have identical travel itineraries. Certain restrictions and blackout dates may apply. Travel must take place between June 1, 2003 and August 31, 2003 and be completed by August 31, 2003 and is subject to air/ground travel availability, hotel availability, holiday, blackout dates, applicable travel requirements. Grand Prize Winner's parent/legal guardian and guests will be required to execute and return a Liability/Publicity release at least 10 days prior to departure. Parent or legal guardian must accompany winner on the trip. Prizes are not transferable. Grand Prize winner will be notified via express mail their specific travel dates on or about January 20, 2003. All travel companions must complete a Liability & Publicity Release For Travel Companion which must be received 14 days after receipt. Grand Prize Winner must confirm available travel dates and flight times selected by the Sponsor upon receipt of their travel affidavit. No extension or change of trip dates permitted once trip dates have been confirmed by Sponsor. All other expenses and incidentals not specifically mentioned as being included are excluded and are winner's sole responsibility including, but not limited to, taxes, gratuities, and telephone calls. No prize substitutions or cash redemption allowed in lieu of any prize, except at Sponsor's sole discretion if an advertised prize becomes unavailable. Substitutions will be of equal or greater value. Limit one prize per person.
6. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Contest is governed by the laws of the State of New York, with venue and jurisdiction in New York County, NY and all claims must be resolved in the courts of New York County, NY. Entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules, and by the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final on all matters pertaining to this Contest. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Entry in Contest constitutes a grant by each entrant to Sponsor of the right to use and publish entrant's name, likeness, photograph school, state and submission in any media in connection with the Contest, as well as to edit, publish, use, exhibit, adapt or modify any submission after the Contest, without further consideration or payment to the entrants except in Tennessee and where otherwise prohibited by law. Entrants agree that their entries are their sole, original work and have not been previously published, aired, produced or copyrighted and are owned by them. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Judges may disqualify previously published/produced entries, or those that have won previous awards or competitions or entries deemed unsuitable or lewd. Submission of any entry constitutes the agreement of the entrant and the entrant's parent or legal guardian to irrevocably assign and transfer to the Sponsor any and all rights, title and interest in the entry, including without limitation, the copyright in the submission throughout the world in all media in perpetuity. By submitting an entry, entrants hereby grant Sponsor the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to use, reproduce, edit, market, store, distribute, publish, adapt, have distributed, publicly and privately display, communicate, publicly and privately perform, transmit, have transmitted, create derivative works based upon, and promote the entry (as such may be edited and modified by Sponsor in its sole discretion). Winners are responsible for all federal, state and local taxes for prizes awarded to each. The parents/legal guardian of the winning student will be issued a 1099 tax form for the Approximate Retail Value of the prize. A&E Television Networks, The GEM Group, Inc., their agencies and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, their directors, officers, agents and employees, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Contest shall not be responsible or liable for damages, losses or injury resulting from this promotion, participation in this Contest, or the acceptance or use/misuse of any prize. As permitted by law in accordance with A&E Television Networks Privacy Policy, A&E Television Networks may use information, which all entrants provide about themselves, to send them announcements about A&E Television Networks products and programs via electronic and ordinary mail.
7. WINNERS LIST: For a list of winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope, to be postmarked by November 8, 2002 and received by November 15, 2002 to: "THE LOST WORLD" POSTER CONTEST WINNERS LIST, 2 Park Avenue, Suite 1400, New York, New York 10016.
