When one examines the political history of the world's government, there are certain moments that emerge as being truly pivotal. There are significant shifts that occur in a nation's structure and organization, often resulting in the current leaders to be uprooted and stripped of their power. These leaders become accountable, vulnerable and exposed for their corrupt nature. On November 28th, 2005 a tremendous shift occurred in Canada as our political stability was shaken to the core. A wave of anger, resentment, deceit and conspiracy washed across the nation. Irreparable damage was done to the Canadian citizens' faith in their political leaders. Canadians demanded answers; they demanded accountability and justice. At the forefront of this paradigm shift was Justice John H. Gomery of the Gomery Commission.

On November 28th, 2005 the Liberal Party of Canada was defeated in a vote of non-confidence in the House of Commons by 171 to 133. The Liberal Party of Canada had been exposed in a scandal that wasted hundreds of millions in taxpayers' dollars, lead by Mr. Justice John H. Gomery of the Gomery Commission. This man headed the investigation that ultimately led to the Liberals' downfall and ruined reputation. Gomery was appointed on February 19, 2004 as Commissioner of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising. He is the source of much criticism and debate over his possible bias and misinterpretation of evidence. His investigation led to a political shift in support from the Liberals to the Conservatives, and his findings will have repercussions for years to come. More now that ever before the federal government of Canada will be under scrutinous eye of its citizens. This is why I would like to nominate Justice John H. Gomery for the A&E Biography of the Year 2006.
