He was the father of a president, an attorney general and a senator. He was one of the richest men in America whose enterprises included liquor distribution, a movie studio, Hertz industries and many other ventures. He was the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and later the American ambassador to England. Joseph Kennedy, Sr. was one of the 20th century's most visible figures. Whether in the world of finance, politics, or high society, Joseph Kennedy, Sr. was a success and a mover and shaker. But all the success and money could never lessen Joseph Kennedy, Sr.'s pain from the loss of his children.
