Gang Violence in America

This episode of 20th Century investigates the growing problem of gang membership and gang violence in American society. While gangs have been a part of the American landscape throughout its history, particularly in the 20th century, gangs today are more violent than their predecessors. Gang violence is responsible for the high incidence of death among young men and women; the life expectancy of a male gang member is 19 years. Gang Violence in America goes into the mean streets of America's cities to speak with gang members and to try to decipher why adolescent gang membership is increasing.
