Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois, Jr.

Vernon Bourgeois, Jr. became the sheriff of Terrebonne Parish four years ago in a landslide electoral victory. His law enforcement career began after he got laid off from a lucrative oilfield job and ran into the then-sheriff in a local mall. The sheriff talked him into joining the department, and Bourgeois quickly worked his way up through the ranks to become what he is now, one of the most powerful figures in the parish. Louisiana sheriffs are extraordinarily powerful because they are responsible for unique duties that aren’t asked of other sheriffs around the country. Along with heading up the criminal division of the department, Bourgeois is also in charge of tax collecting, seizing properties and running the parish jail.
