Deputy Melissa “Catfish” Quintal

Originally from Massachusetts, Deputy Melissa ‘Catfish’ Quintal has worked with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office since 2009. A friend recognized Quintal’s fighting spirit and suggested that this Cajun-country newcomer consider a job with the Sheriff’s office. She successfully completed her training at the academy and quickly moved onto patrol.

Deputy Quintal’s shift commander also noticed certain personality traits in her, and soon gave her the nickname ‘Catfish,’ with the explanation that ’she’s as hard-headed as the hard-head catfish that we have down here.’ Quintal takes pride in her moniker and acknowledges that as a woman in a male-dominated occupation, a certain amount of toughness and hard-headedness serves her well.

She has demonstrated the ability to forcefully control a disturbance, tactfully issue a citation, or calmly comfort a child in distress with a caring smile. She is currently in a relationship with Terrebonne’s alligator nuisance hunter, Jacob Lirette.
