Life of the embattled Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, who's become a key ally in the war on terror, angering Islamic militants who twice tried to assassinate him. After moving through the army's ranks, he was named Army Chief of Staff in 1998. A year later, he led a coup to topple Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, dismissed parliament, imposed martial law, and assumed the chief executive position.
