Thomas Watson, Jr..
He took one of the biggest gambles in corporate history--a $5 billion roll of the dice that would, if successful, render the rest of his product line obsolete. The incredible success revolutionized the modern workplace and home. This monumental achievement would have been difficult to predict. As an angst-ridden and insecure child, Thomas Watson Jr. grew up in the shadow of a highly successful father and the company he ran: IBM. A terrible student, he was tortured by self doubt. It wasn't until his success as a pilot in WWII that Watson overcame his fears. He returned home and not only succeeded his father, but eventually surpassed him.
